Description
Purpose:
FinMark UTxxx-SM-16L 1kN – a small-sized dielectric optical cable, optimal for suspension on communication line poles, urban electric transport, between buildings and other objects with spans up to 70 m. The fully dielectric design allows the cable to be suspended on poles of electric transport contact networks or power lines if the induced electric field potential at the suspension points does not exceed 12 kV. Small dimensions and weight also allow the cable to be pulled (blown) into protective plastic pipes.
Construction:
The cable with a central optical module can accommodate up to 12 optical fibers. The sheath is made of UV-stabilized high-density polyethylene. To ensure resistance to tensile loads, two fiberglass strength members with a diameter of 1.0 mm are embedded in the sheath.
Cables with a capacity of 1-4 fibers have a reduced diameter (4.4 mm), with good mechanical resistance to tension (1 kN). This allows them to be used as subscriber drop cables for quite long spans (about 70 m). Thanks to the reduced diameter, such cables can be inserted into subscriber ports of boxes, and good flexibility allows them to be laid inside the enclosure.
The cable contains optical fiber that meets the requirements of ITU-T G.657.A1. Such fiber can be laid in cassettes, boxes, and cable routes with a small bending radius – up to 10 (static)/20 (dynamic) outer diameters, without significant additional losses.
Its characteristics can be found here.

The conventional designation of FinMark optical cables can be found here.
Key Features:
- The fully dielectric cable design eliminates any electromagnetic influences on the cable (lightning, power lines). This removes the need to address grounding and electrical safety issues during installation and operation.
- The high-density polyethylene (HDPE) sheath provides good protection against accidental mechanical damage and chemical influences. The significant thickness of the sheath provides mechanical protection for the cable core from accidental damage or excessive compression in the clamp during short-term loading.
- Fiberglass rods are embedded in the sheath, and with additional tension, the force from the clamp is transferred to the strength members, which deforms the optical module less.
- The simple design facilitates cable stripping – with a single stripper movement.
- Low weight and diameter (4.4 – 5.0 mm) facilitate laying and allow insertion into subscriber ports of boxes.
