FinMark Optical Cable Symbols

Author: Огиян Александр

Designation of FinMark optical cable consists of several groups of letters and numbers, which mean the following:

Cable type Number of fibers Fiber type Modification (Additional symbols)

The first two letters indicate the cable type:

UT

(UniTube)

Cable with a core consisting of a single central tube and side strength members
LT

(LooseTube)

Cable with a modular core design and a central strength member
MT

(Multi dwelling Tight Buffered)

Cable in the form of a hollow tube with loosely arranged tight-buffered fibers and side strength members
MU

(Multi dwelling Micro-Units)

Cable in the form of a hollow tube with loosely arranged fiber micromodules and side strength members
MB

(Multi dwelling Break-Out)

Cable containing micro-cables in individual jackets stranded around a central strength member
PS

(Patchcord Single)

Single- or dual-fiber cable with tight-buffered fibers for manufacturing patch cords and jumpers
FTTH

(Fiber-to-the-home)

Low-fiber-count flat cable with side strength members for access network deployment inside buildings

Three digits — number of fibers in the cable

From 002 to 288 for cables with individual fibers.

For example:

  • 004 – 4 fibers in the cable;
  • 196 – 196 fibers in the cable.

Fiber type:

  • SM – standard single-mode fiber compliant with ITU-T G.652.D recommendation
  • MM – 50/125 μm multimode fiber compliant with ITU-T G.651 recommendation
  • SS – non-zero dispersion-shifted single-mode fiber compliant with ITU-T G.655 recommendation
