Designation of FinMark optical cable consists of several groups of letters and numbers, which mean the following:

The first two letters indicate the cable type:

Cable with a core consisting of a single central tube and side strength members |

LT | Cable with a modular core design and a central strength member |

MT | Cable in the form of a hollow tube with loosely arranged tight-buffered fibers and side strength members |

MU | Cable in the form of a hollow tube with loosely arranged fiber micromodules and side strength members |

MB | Cable containing micro-cables in individual jackets stranded around a central strength member |
 |
PS | Single- or dual-fiber cable with tight-buffered fibers for manufacturing patch cords and jumpers |

FTTH | Low-fiber-count flat cable with side strength members for access network deployment inside buildings |
Three digits — number of fibers in the cable
From 002 to 288 for cables with individual fibers.
For example:
- 004 – 4 fibers in the cable;
- 196 – 196 fibers in the cable.
Fiber type:
- SM – standard single-mode fiber compliant with ITU-T G.652.D recommendation
- MM – 50/125 μm multimode fiber compliant with ITU-T G.651 recommendation
- SS – non-zero dispersion-shifted single-mode fiber compliant with ITU-T G.655 recommendation
